Kluay Mai Thai (กล้วยไม้ไทย)

Hidden in the back of a sleepy neighborhood in Phuket, Kluay Mai Thai (กล้วยไม้ไทย) is a small and friendly local Southern Thai restaurant. The atmosphere is literally the front yard shelter with a half dozen tables surrounded by potted plants. The owner and chef is friendly and welcoming, and usually comes around to take your order or say hello. I tried about 8 dishes last time I went, and a few of my favorites were the fried “pla mong” fish with curry paste (ปลามงทอดเครื่อง), and stir fried banana trunk with shrimp paste (หยวกกล้วยกะปิ). The gaeng som (sour curry แกงส้ม) was a little on the sweet side for me, but you would like it if you prefer sweeter.
