Best in Bangkok: Sticky Rice and Durian at Loong Peeak (ลุงเปี๊ยก)

They treat their Durian like children at Loong Peeak, the fruits are ginormous, only the finest quality – the Kobe beef of Durian.
Loong Peeak serves sticky rice and durian (khao neow durian ข้าวหนียวทุเรียน) as well as sticky rice and mango, but given the choice, why would you want the latter?
The only downside is that this joint has no seating, only available for take-away in plastic bags. It is slightly disheartening, trying to find a location to rip open the plastic bags to dip in.
Don’t let the small amount of durian discourage you – good things come in small packages. It starts with sticky rice, lightly sweetened, but not over powering. The durian they use is outrageously pungent, a robust rancid like smell that I think is delightful. The coconut cream soup is lightly sweetened, not super sugary, like many Thai versions.
I’ve long been a huge fan of sticky rice and durian (khao neow durian ข้าวหนียวทุเรียน), the almost absurd merger of flavors is something I live for. This particular one, located in Talat Phlu, Bangkok, Thailand, could easily be Bangkok’s best.
Price
It’s a 30 THB investment that would be worth it, even if it was the last of your savings.

The closest BTS station is Wang Wian Yai, though it’s still about 2 -3 km from the station. It’s possible to take a quick taxi or motorcycle to get to Talat Phlu. It’s also located right on the rail train line, though the schedule is quite sporadic.

Hey Mark, just wanted to inform you and the followers of Migrationology that the Khao Neow Toorien @ Loong Peak has moved further down to road to 1333 instead of the old 1209. Just been there today and I will be doing a blog post on the road less travelled for the people who travel to EAT.

Thank you for this! I’m coming back to BKK in a few days, and something durian-related will surely be my first meal. Will it be sticky rice with durian? Plain, fresh durian? Or maybe coconut durian ice cream?
